Pat Westwater-Jong: Against Torture, Against Cast LeadI've attended many meetings/events at e5 over the years. It's an amazing space that shifts from separate work spaces where individual groups "live" to larger spaces for short term groups meet, to even larger spaces for performances and parties. I remember a group of people in their 20's, organized by a couple of Harvard University students, facilitated by Nancy Murray, who gathered to combat torture and educate people about other physical abuse on both personal and system scales. They created and gave a performance of skits which were poignant and powerful. After the performance, at e5, the actors and audience shared a delicious pot luck dinner. I have photos, somewhere, if anyone would like them.
I also attended a talk by a young man who returned from a trip to Gaza and a series of meetings which I'm pretty sure were to plan a NY Eve march to protest the Operation Cast Lead campaign on Gaza. Although I've not been able to attend the music and social events there, as an activist, living out beyond Boston's suburbs, I've looked wistfully at those listings and been grateful that at least some people are getting together to create a community of people who participate in US politics. And I've looked forward to attending one of those events some day, even though i don't know anyone very well who might be there. |
